Getting Started with Castora

Welcome to Castora — the modern platform for running async auditions, scoring submissions collaboratively, and keeping your entire casting workflow in one place.

Whether you're a casting director managing multiple projects, a producer coordinating across teams, or a performer looking for a streamlined audition experience, Castora is designed to make the process faster, fairer, and less chaotic.

What is Castora?

Castora replaces the scattered mess of email threads, shared drives, and spreadsheet trackers with a single platform purpose-built for casting. Instead of juggling attachments and losing track of feedback, you get structured auditions, objective scoring, and a shared space where everyone stays on the same page.

At its core, Castora is built around four key capabilities:

  • Async Auditions — publish audition briefs and collect self-tape submissions on your timeline, not around everyone's conflicting schedules.
  • Collaborative Scoring — evaluate submissions using weighted, outcome-based criteria so every reviewer scores consistently.
  • Audition Room — discuss submissions with timestamped comments, threaded replies, and clear verdicts — all in one place.
  • Resource Drive — store and organise scripts, sides, reference materials, and media files with fine-grained access controls.

How Castora works

The typical Castora workflow follows three stages:

1. Publish

Create an audition by defining the role, uploading any supporting materials, and setting your submission deadline. Share the audition link with performers or invite them directly.

2. Collect

Performers record and upload their self-tapes at a time that suits them. No scheduling conflicts, no travel, no waiting rooms. Submissions arrive in your dashboard ready for review.

3. Review

Your casting team watches submissions, scores them against your defined criteria, and discusses standout performances in the Audition Room. Weighted scores surface the strongest candidates without subjective bias dominating the process.

Setting up your account

Getting started takes just a few minutes:

  1. Sign up at app.getcastora.com using your email or Google account.
  2. Complete your profile — add your name, role, and organisation so your team can identify you.
  3. Create or join an organisation — if your team is already on Castora, ask for an invite. Otherwise, create a new organisation and you'll be set as the owner.

Once you're in, you'll land on your dashboard where you can create auditions, manage submissions, and invite collaborators.

Key concepts

Before diving deeper, here are a few terms you'll see throughout the docs:

  • Organisation — your team's shared workspace. All auditions, files, and members live under one organisation.
  • Audition — a casting call for a specific role, containing the brief, submission requirements, and collected self-tapes.
  • Submission — a performer's response to an audition, typically including a self-tape video and any requested materials.
  • Scorecard — the set of weighted criteria your team uses to evaluate submissions objectively.
  • Verdict — the final decision on a submission: shortlisted, held, or passed.
